Warts are unsightly tumors that grow on the skin normal seen on fingers and hands but can potentially affect any area of skin and sometimes actually found inside the mouth but increasingly on the genitals. Some people are unfortunate enough to catch their warts from someone else, even if is only because they used their towel.

Warts situated on the soles of the feet do cause discomfort but generally they are painless even warts on the genitalia which are caught from another person who has them and becomes a carrier through sex. A person will not generally become vulnerable to warts until after the age of three and after this they can grow almost anywhere and in women even inside the vagina which often aren’t detected until they have an examination.

Warts find it easier to take hold on cut or scratched skin and are often seen in batches on children who scratch at them and help to spread them but unless there is a specific reason to rid them, it isn’t always necessary. A common reason for eradicating warts is to stop further spread but even when this is achieved, they can return at any time and for some people they can become a persistent nuisance. Flat Warts...

Most people are aware of the common wart but many different strains exist. There are in fact in excess of one hundred different types of warts in the human papillomavirus family; each is specific to an area or the body.

Not everyone gets warts, although the reason for this remain to be discovered but for those who are susceptible, they can even be contracted by biting their nails to close to the skin at the end of the finger. This is the area the common wart is most frequently found, around the cuticles at the finger tips and recognized by the cauliflower like appearance of the tumor which sometimes grow in groups; the small black dots that are in the center are actually blood vessels.

The warts sometimes seen on the face, legs and arms are the flat warts which are much smaller that their common wart cousins; they are also smoother and skin colored but they can often be found in groups which may contain many, even a 100 or more. Anal and genital warts are much more serious not just because they are highly infectious but they are in particularly sensitive areas of the body and can be found internally, even inside the urethra.

Some warts may last many years and then just vanish whilst others will require intervention from a topical ointment or by the doctor. Most people that want to rid themselves of warts or verrucas will by an ointment with salicylic acid as the active ingredient which is generally very successful at getting rid of them but it is important to follow the enclosed instructions to the letter as a strict program of cleaning is necessary.
