The problem with warts (a tiny rough unsightly tumor) is they can grow almost anywhere on the body including inside the mouth and genitals but are most usually seen on the hands and feet. The common wart which is more than likely those found on someone’s fingers or hands are still contagious if they are touched but it is not uncommon for someone to contract warts from using the towel of someone who has the condition.
Even though genital warts are like most other warts, do not cause any pain (except warts on the areas of the foot where you apply pressure when walking) but are nonetheless highly contagious and can be contracted during any type of sexual act. Women can actually have warts on the inside of the vaginal walls and not know they have the growths.
Warts generally appear after a person has cut or grazed themselves and can spread from there but other than being unsightly, they do not normally cause any harm although that does not mean it isn’t beneficial to have them removed on occasion. Stopping warts from spreading is generally the best reason to have them removed especially with children who are more likely to pick at them. A common method of removing them is by the application of liquid nitrogen and after a few treatments they usually drop of but this has to be performed by a doctor.

Common warts are a type of infection caused by viruses in the human papillomavirus family but there are many different types. There are in fact in excess of one hundred different types of warts in the human papillomavirus family; each is specific to an area or the body.
Some people are more naturally resistant to the human papillomavirus viruses and don’t seem to get warts as easily as other people but for those who are more susceptible, even biting your nails can also cause warts to spread on your fingertips and around your nails. Those small cauliflower-like papules seen on people’s fingers, especially around the cuticle area are the common wart and these usually appear to have small dark specks in them which are blood vessels.
The warts sometimes seen on the face, legs and arms are the flat warts which are much smaller that their common wart cousins; they are also smoother and skin colored but they can often be found in groups which may contain many, even a 100 or more. Ano-genital warts are flesh to gray in color, grow in mucous membranes, and vary in size from small, shiny papules, to large cauliflower like lesions and can extend internally into the vagina and cervix, the rectal area, and inside the urethra.
It is not known why but often warts will vanish on their own but in some cases this can take years, others however, require a little help as they are persistent and show no signs of disappearing. Ointments containing salicylic acid are the most popular forms of wart and verruca removal but the instructions must be followed to the letter if the treatment is t be successful.
