Venereal Warts

Warts are unsightly tumors that grow on the skin normal seen on fingers and hands but can potentially affect any area of skin and sometimes actually found inside the mouth but increasingly on the genitals. Common warts on the skin may be passed to another person when that person touches the warts but it is also possible to get warts from using towels or other objects that were used by a person who has warts.

The most contagious of all warts are genital warts which are caught from another person who has them during sex, even orally, who may not even know they have them but all warts except for those on the soles of the feet do not cause pain. Warts are rarely seen on children under the age of three, but after this age they become more frequent and in women, warts can grow on the cervix (inside the vagina), and a woman may not know she has them.

A tiny cut or scratch can make any area of skin more vulnerable to warts and, if a child picks at a wart, it can spread to other parts of the body but warts don’t generally cause any problems, so it’s not always necessary to have them removed, unless you have concerns. One reason to treat warts is to prevent them from spreading further, but common warts may recur after treatment, and they may be a persistent problem. A doctor can also freeze warts and verrucas away with liquid nitrogen but often several freezing treatments will be necessary before the warts are totally removed.

Venereal Warts...

Whilst warts all tend to be referred to as common warts, this is not the case as there are a large number of variations. There are more than 100 types of human papillomavirus viruses; some types of human papillomavirus tend to cause warts on the skin, while other types focus on the genitals and rectal area.

Some people are more naturally resistant to the human papillomavirus viruses and don’t seem to get warts as easily as other people but for those who are more susceptible, even biting your nails can also cause warts to spread on your fingertips and around your nails. This is the area the common wart is most frequently found, around the cuticles at the finger tips and recognized by the cauliflower like appearance of the tumor which sometimes grow in groups; the small black dots that are in the center are actually blood vessels.

The flat wart is much smoother than a common wart and may be tan colored with a smoother surface; these tend to congregate on the legs, arms or face and in more sever cases the person may have hundreds. Anal and genital warts are much more serious not just because they are highly infectious but they are in particularly sensitive areas of the body and can be found internally, even inside the urethra.

It is not known why but often warts will vanish on their own but in some cases this can take years, others however, require a little help as they are persistent and show no signs of disappearing. The most common topical treatment for warts and verrucas is salicylic acid an various forms, which is available in most drugstores and whilst it is effective, it does require strict adherence to the cleaning regime.
